This is a good time to educate yourselves, your family and your community about strategies for preventing alcohol misuse or abuse. Now is a good time to talk with your kids about the risks of alcohol abuse. It is also a time to encourage yourself or friends and family to make small changes, like keeping track of your drinking and setting drinking limits or ‘rules’.
- For a guide to how to talk to your child or teen about alcohol, the National Institute of Health offers a great guide.
- Do you know how much alcohol is actually in your drink? Use the NIAA Calculator to quiz yourself.
If you think you or someone on your family may have trouble with alcohol, remember you can always reach out to your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to confidentially talk with a counselor and/or be connected with resources that may be able to help.
