Navigating Student Suicide and Other Critical Losses
The suicide of a young member of a school community is something no educator wants to have to face. These devastating circumstances impact everyone from students and faculty to trustees. Unfortunately, insurance claims stemming from these sad events have been significant, especially when prevention or “post-vention” processes break down. Using a tabletop-like exercise, United Educators will walk us through the immediate and long-term actions needed following a suicide.
The topics we will cover include:
- Developing a crisis communication strategy
- Supporting bereaved community members
- Coordinating with relevant authorities
- Managing the insurance claim process
- Handling the legal process afterward
While we will use suicide as an example, this session should help you prepare for many different significant liability claims.
